It’s been a busy week. Earlier in the week I spent a couple of nights with some very good Australian friends. It was time spent in relaxation and time spent getting things done that needed to be done. I had several errands to be taken care of in both Boquete and David Panama.
One of the errands was to check on license plates which I had renewed in April. But the plates were not available and they gave me a three month temporary paper to drive with. I went and checked on the plates but they were still not available.....come back at the end of this month, was their response. I hope they will be ready as my three months is up July 22.
I moved my horse from the country club stable up to the house mid-week. It was a nice day, and the ride was about an hour. I was alone and on a new saddle which apparently, did not tighten up as nicely as my usual saddle. Half way up the hill, Apache saw a water pipe vibrating which spooked him, and as he twisted to run back down the hill, the saddle which had loosened, slid sideways. I retained my balance for several seconds but realized as he started to bolt, that I could not recover from a sideways perspective. Off I went, onto the roadside, onto my butt and my head bashed against the dirt. I could see Apache prancing away but I knew he would not go far....he was just spooked. He really is a good horse and I felt confident I would be able to get up and catch him easily. Then, suddenly, I felt this warm gooey liquid running down the back of my neck. The blood was oozing down onto the ground and onto my neck and clothing. I lay down on the road. Fortunately, I had my cell phone and called home for help....it wasn’t more than 5 minutes away. Lee came quickly, and Apache was quickly retrieved and brought up to the house.
I was shortly thereafter escorted to the Boquete medical clinic. I thought it would be a quick look at my head (which was a superficial cut) and a quick dressing, with maybe some ointment. Nope...three stitches, an IV drip with pain killer and two and a half hours later.....I was able to leave, not before. Cost $78. That was the bill for the clinic, not the antibiotics, pain killer and ointment. Those were another $76. I left feeling quite fine and I was glad to have the wound taken care of so attentively.
The next day was spent in David running errands. It seems that a visit to David is always very hectic and lately, the traffic in David, is awful. First stop was to find a repair shop for the weed-wacker. Then running for hardware supplies....and the usual Price Mart stop for favorite items, a visit to the grocery store, the horse store, the veterinarian....etc. A dentist appointment had been scheduled for Lee’s daughter and that was the main reason for the visit but it was not until 4:30 pm. We arrived a little early and the dentist attended to her teeth without delay. Lee’s daughter has been anxious to find a puppy and we located a possible source for a puppy while we visited the horse store and veterinarian. We’ll be following up on that on Saturday morning....in David.
This morning, was a Boquete Community Players meeting to which I had been invited. I wasn’t sure what we would be in for but the meeting was a very pleasant surprise. The BCP has been actively negotiating to find space to hold their theatre presentations and has successfully done so with Anyansi Melendez who owns Snoopy’s right on the waterfront, by the bridge. What a wonderful location and what a perfect spot. Snoopy’s hasn’t been operating for a few years and will need some work but the BCP has made a sweet deal and will contribute to the community by making improvements to the establishment and promoting community and social events, over and above theatrical events. This news was very good for the community and everyone is enthusiastic to contribute and see it all happen.
This evening, we attended the second performance of The Vagina Monologues. I had seen all of the cast perform in other plays and had expectations of what each of their capabilities were based on those previous plays. What an ignoramous I was....to expect mediocrity ! The performances in this production, were above and beyond and were truly exceptional ! There is talent in this little town.....yes indeed! Sleeping dogs have been awakened !
That’s the summary of this week....oh yes, I forgot, I celebrated my birthday at the beginning of the week. I almost forgot already.
